Our Story

Welcome to The Blessing Box!  We are so excited to share with you our family’s Advent tradition that we hope will become your own!

The Blessing Box was a labor of love born from my mother, Lisa Best, elementary school music teacher by trade, a woman with a heart for both God and children and blessed with the gift of creativity. To this day, the Blessing Box is my favorite Christmas memory. During the holiday season, I eagerly awaited the nightly devotions around the Christmas tree, culminating in the unboxing of a small gift or treat.

When my mom took to re-creating the Blessing Box tradition for her grandchildren, a whole new generation of the Blessing Box was born. Between the nostalgia of my own childhood memories around this experience and witnessing my son’s excitement for the tradition, I felt called to honor my mom’s legacy by sharing the gift of the Blessing Box with other families. Thus, The Blessing Box (with a capital T) was born.

Admittedly, times were a little simpler when the Blessing Box was first created over 30 years ago.  Since then, life has only become more complicated for all of us – especially for busy parents.  The holidays can be utterly overwhelming.  If we’re not intentional, the Christmas season becomes more about the hustle and bustle rather than prioritizing time to be still, spent with the ones we love.  It becomes about capturing the perfect memories to share rather than being present in the moment to savor them for ourselves.  It becomes more about Santa “watching” to make his list and check it twice rather than our Savior lovingly watching over us.  We find ourselves over-gifting rather than simply recognizing and receiving the greatest gift of all – Jesus.

The Blessing Box is an invitation to choose something different for your family this Christmas. While there are certainly physical elements to The Blessing Box, it is intended to be an experience rather than another “thing” in your home. May your experience help your family slow down, savor, and focus on what truly matters. The Blessing Box doesn’t require you to be creative, and it doesn’t require any preparation.  Everything is right at your fingertips so you can easily begin this meaningful tradition that facilitates quality time with your children and nurtures their relationship with Jesus.

During this most blessed season, our hope is that The Blessing Box helps you and yours revisit the childlike wonderment of faith while experiencing the true spirit of Christmas.

With love,
